Dear SOON(ER) to be traveler,
I am here to educate you on one of my personal favorite topics, gelato! At home I am an avid dessert eater, being in Italy only boosts these habits! My life revolves around food, while that might sound cliche, it is true. I am very passionate about food from growing up in an authentic Greek household. If you didn’t know, both the Greeks and Italians take a lot of pride in their food and recipes. It can become very competitive. I never knew how passionate I could be about a dessert as simple as gelato. But that's exactly what surprised me, how intricate gelato could be. It has an immense amount of depth considering it is made from a base of cream, milk, and sugar. While I consider myself to be quite knowledgeable and almost picky when it comes to food–all thanks to my dad's cooking–I truly have no negative comments when it comes to Cremì. The title says it all, Arezzo’s best gelato–and trust me I've tried them all.
I am the type of person that when I sets my mind to something, I will get it done. And for me, this means finding the best gelato in Arezzo. Whether this means eating gelato twice a day (hardly a problem for me), walking across town in the brutal heat, spending extra euros to try the deluxe flavors or rummaging my wallet for my cash, I was going to do it. Little did I know, I did not have to walk miles to find the best. It was right down the street from the classroom. It is a quaint candy and gelato shop called Cremì, and let me tell you the name does not lie. I go so frequently the employee, Teresa, knows my name and order.

Throughout the process of evaluating various gelatria’s throughout Arezzo, I have had a few factors in mind. The first and most prevalent topic to me is texture. You know when you have ice cream that's freezer burned and dry and truly becomes unappetizing? Well, unfortunately I’ve tried a few gelato’s like that, but Cremì’s never derived that teeth burning feeling. Cremì’s flavors, whether fruity or chocolate-based, are visibly and tactically smooth and velvety–which appeals to my senses more than flavor. The second factor is the variety of flavor options. If a gelateria only has a mere six flavors, I immediately eliminate them from my personal competition. This is important to me not only for those who have dietary restrictions, but who knows what kind of mood I'll be in; I want all the options! Cremì has refreshing flavors such as: Capri Limone, Fragola, Greek Yogurt and Melone. These are my go-to’s when needing a sweet stimulating treat between classes. I highly-recommend it as a mid-day reward for your hard work in class. My personal favorites are the chocolate based flavors such as: Cremino, Caffé and Nutella Hazelnut. I tend to reach for these after a salty, pasta-filled dinner, because who doesn’t need to end dinner with a satisfyingly sweet treat!
Although you now know I can be picky when it comes to food, just know it derives from a long history of passion regarding it! Being Greek, I am very opinionated and logic-based, which is why when reviewing these various gelatarias I constructed a “rubric” if you will. Now that you know these things about me, you should trust my opinion when I say Cremì checks all the boxes! Whether it is a mid-day refresher, post-dinner treat or comfort food when missing home, Cremì never fails. It is everything you need it to be, whenever you want it to be.
When you try gelato in Arezzo, try Cremì!
