Dear SOON(ER) to be traveler,

If you are looking for a fun and vibrant place for dinner, that’s also on the voucher list, Dirty Rat is the perfect place for you.

Located off one of the main roads in Arezzo, Dirty Rat is a hot spot for OU study abroad students. Like most restaurants you have a choice of sitting inside or outside. The outside seating lines the street and has an excellent view of one of the busiest areas of town. If you decide to sit inside, you will be taken upstairs where there are many tables and you will see first-hand the energetic atmosphere of the restaurant.

As you enter the restaurant, you walk into the bar and are greeted by English speaking staff. The waiters and bartenders are very sociable, and you will be on a first name basis with them before you know. As you are taken to your table, your eyes immediately notice the elegant blue and yellow, floral-like plates.

Once you are seated, you are brought a small appetizer – usually a cheese dish that is topped with a tomato and small piece of bread. The cheese is rich with flavor and has a soft texture. The tomato added a nice contrast of color to the golden cheese and a roasted flavor to the appetizer. The bread reminded me of a chip as it was crunchy to eat. It had little flavor but went well when dipped into the cheese.

If you are using a voucher, you can be worth $15 and anything over you have to pay. Although they are also known for their drinks, those are not included with the voucher. If you are looking for a bartender to make you a specialty drink, I recommend making friends with Luke. To go along with the variety, there are a bunch of options to choose from on the menu. My two favorites have been the sausage and potato tortelli and the tagiatelle.

The tortelli was a fresh ravioli topped with a creamy white sauce. Inside the ravioli was a cheese that added just a touch of richness to the dish. The ravioli and white sauce blended nicely together and left you wanting more. Overall I would rate this dish an eight out of 10.

The other dish I greatly enjoyed was the tagliatelle, which was, in simple terms, just spaghetti and red sauce. The spaghetti was freshly made and was easy to chew. The red sauce had meat in it and added a nice seasoned tomato taste to the dish. Overall I would rate this dish a nine out of 10. I personally enjoyed the tagliatelle more than the tortelli but would recommend both to anyone craving a solid pasta dish.

Something unique about Dirty Rat is the variety of food they have to offer. They have a range of meat options, such as duck breast, BBQ ribs, and pork steak. Although I haven’t tried, I have heard they are exceptionally good.

Overall Dirty Rat is a great spot to have dinner if you are wanting a fun-loving atmosphere.

Dirty Rate Rating: 9 out of 10
